Disorders

So this is our last chapter in our psychology and the chapter we had to read was treating psychological disorders. To me this part of psychology was a good learning area for me. I would have to say that most of what i read about is how I would of though they treated different disorders. So of the ways they treat different disorders are by medicine which I already knew but then there was electroconvulsive therapy where they shock peoples brains into triggering a brief seizure. Which I found to be to be a bit much because they didn't but the person under when they were doing the electroconvulsive therapy. I know we have a mental hospital here in Pines which was used back in in the 1950's until about 1990. This place was for people how were consider to be crazy back in those days and they really did use the electroconvulsive therapy there and room was still set up the same as it was back when they used it. Reason I was in that building was because my office is moving over there by the building and I asked if someone could take me into the old mental hospital because i'm taking psychology and I wanted to see if any of the recorders or anything was left in there. Well let me just say this that the old hospital was pretty scary even though it was pretty much empty at this point. There were still some office stuff in there and also rooms that had medical beds. So like the last chapter said there were big stereotypes placed on people with mental illness and it is sad because they were locked away. Yes, the place it was at was for the criminally insane and also people with mental disorder like schizophrenia. Another thing I want to talk about is people who have to take medicine to help with there disorders. When I comes to the different medications that are used I don't know  if there more helpful or not with the people who take them. So of the side effects are pretty bad. So medicines can lead to suicide or even increased anxiety. I've seen when people don't take there medicine for whatever reason and they totally lose all control and have a mental break down its pretty scary to watch. My aunt is  bipolar and I have seen the effects of her not taking her medicine and how its a very sad and scary sight. She is uncontrollable one minute she is okay and then the next minute she is on the other end with a bad attitude and I would say pretty crazy. She yells and screams and acts like a total beast like a whole other person. Then there was the guy at my office about a week ago that had a break down in the middle of my office yelling and screaming and then through himself on the floor like a child because they didn't get their way with something. I never realized how many people are effected by mental disorder whether it is something more basic or something that is a chemical imbalance which can only be helped with medicine for the rest of the persons life and even then sometimes the medicine doesn't as work for the person so they have to keep trying new medicines until they find the right one or even amount of the medicine they need to take in order to control there disorder.
