Disorders
So this is our last chapter in our psychology and the chapter we had to read was treating psychological disorders. To me this part of psychology was a good learning area for me. I would have to say that most of what i read about is how I would of though they treated different disorders. So of the ways they treat different disorders are by medicine which I already knew but then there was electroconvulsive therapy where they shock peoples brains into triggering a brief seizure. Which I found to be to be a bit much because they didn't but the person under when they were doing the electroconvulsive therapy. I know we have a mental hospital here in Pines which was used back in in the 1950's until about 1990. This place was for people how were consider to be crazy back in those days and they really did use the electroconvulsive therapy there and room was still set up the same as it was back when they used it. Reason I was in that building was because my office is moving over there by the building and I asked if someone could take me into the old mental hospital because i'm taking psychology and I wanted to see if any of the recorders or anything was left in there. Well let me just say this that the old hospital was pretty scary even though it was pretty much empty at this point. There were still some office stuff in there and also rooms that had medical beds. So like the last chapter said there were big stereotypes placed on people with mental illness and it is sad because they were locked away. Yes, the place it was at was for the criminally insane and also people with mental disorder like schizophrenia. Another thing I want to talk about is people who have to take medicine to help with there disorders. When I comes to the different medications that are used I don't know if there more helpful or not with the people who take them. So of the side effects are pretty bad. So medicines can lead to suicide or even increased anxiety. I've seen when people don't take there medicine for whatever reason and they totally lose all control and have a mental break down its pretty scary to watch. My aunt is bipolar and I have seen the effects of her not taking her medicine and how its a very sad and scary sight. She is uncontrollable one minute she is okay and then the next minute she is on the other end with a bad attitude and I would say pretty crazy. She yells and screams and acts like a total beast like a whole other person. Then there was the guy at my office about a week ago that had a break down in the middle of my office yelling and screaming and then through himself on the floor like a child because they didn't get their way with something. I never realized how many people are effected by mental disorder whether it is something more basic or something that is a chemical imbalance which can only be helped with medicine for the rest of the persons life and even then sometimes the medicine doesn't as work for the person so they have to keep trying new medicines until they find the right one or even amount of the medicine they need to take in order to control there disorder.

relating classes to work
So today at work we had a customer came into our house and he had a total mental down in the middle of the office. I would like to say he has a mental disease but i'm not very sure which one. He was upset about his bill for this month and when the customer service stuff tryed to example to the man about the minimum bill he throw himself on the floor and started screaming like he was a 3 year old child. I was blow away by this whole thing and since we are reading about mental disease's in psychology I would have to say he either has a mental disease or is under a lot of stress which is cause this break down. We weren't able to get him to relax or even to sit up in a chair. Which he went into this fit he wasn't hearing anything anyone in the office had to say. We ended up call the police dept and asked they come with the fire dept because of what was happening with this man. Once the cops came he still didnt really relax but they did talk to him and call his wife which we came to find out the man has a mental disorder and that he may be off his medican. So felt to bad for this guy because i've never come across this before other then my Aunt which is bipolor, but when it comes to her she has more of a mood swing then a mental break down like this man had today at our office. I do believe after watching this whole thing this morning that some people really do have a mental sickness that does need medican and doctors care. I feel so bad for people who have different disorders which effect there everyday life.

Chapter 12
So the last chapter we had to read and study was defining psychological disorders. We'll after reading about some of the disorders they talked about the nature vs nurture and how those two things can effect someone which many cause an disorder. A lot of the disorders are treatable and don't have long lasting effects on the person. Then there are other disorders which people live with but they pretty control everything in that persons life which sometimes makes the person live unlivable. They also spoke about ADHD all the way to sexual disorders. I was shocked about how many disorders there are out there and how a lot of people live with the disorder their whole life or even sometimes grow out of it or sometimes even get some disorders later in life. I didn't realize how many thousands of people are effected by all different types of disorders from all around the world and also the United States. Within this chapter they talk all about causes and impacts or the disorders also the treatments for the different disorders. How this chapter relates to my everyday life is that I have a family member who is bio polar and also I found of the guy I'm seeing had ADHD as a child. When it comes to my family member I now better understand the disorder and how it is treated and how difficult it is to live with thAt disease because of the mood swings and ups and downs. Then with ADHD I was joking with the guy I'm seeing and told him I believe you have ADHD because of the fact the variety of behaviors they talk about in the chapter totally fit him. Then he told me as a small child he was on medical when it and I totally believe he still has this disorder as a 30 year man. The closer to the end of this class we get the more I'm really starting to enjoy it and understand and relate the stuff I have learned to my everyday life.

Personality
So the last chapter we had to read In psychology was on personality. After reading the chapter it made me think about myself and others and why we are the way we are when it comes to personality. The book makes it seem like a lot of our personality comes from traits which relates to our behaviors. Which I never though were related to personality. So I ended up taking the personality test which when I got my results I don't believe the personality test really show our true personality. I even had my parents read the results and asked them if what the test said sounded like me. Their answer was NO not at all. Then there was the Big Five which explain substantial proportion of behavior. After reading the five different one they have listed I don't really see myself as anyone of those. I would have to say I'm more of a mix of like two of them which are openness to experience and conscientiousness. These two aren't 100% like me but they do have some quilts that are like me. Well one to the next subject be I carry on to much. I took the chapter 11 quiz and let me tell you that quiz had nothing to do with the chapter at all which sucked! Well at least to me that quiz and what I read didn't relate at all :/
So after all of this is said and done I know have been using this personality study with people I work with or even friends. I can tell that some of peoples personalities have to do with how they were raised or even where they grow up of what they saw growing up. It's kind of weird but I do believe that our behavior has to do with our personality even though before when I first read the chapter i can't see how those two things related to each other. Pretty cool on how after I have read these chapters in this book I took the things I have learned and use them at work a lot. Reason for this is because I work with the public and it is even difficult to handle some of the people with their crazy and wild behaviors and personalties. Like when it comes to the people I work with our personalities are so different in ways but in other we are a lot a like. Example some of the ladies I work with are from New York well a lot of them are and the age group is from 66 to 28 and they all have that tough and out spoken kind of attitude about them. I guess it has to do with where they were raised because they all come from different areas in New York and different back grounds but some of their behaviors are a lot a like its kind of crazy now that I'm looking for these kind of things.

Chapter 10
Okay so after reading the chapeter on stress, health and some other topics I was kinda shocked what the book had to say. I wasn't shocked in a bad way. but it was more along the lines of wow I didnt know that and I didnt realize that stress could cause so many health problems. Yea I didnt know that stress does wear on a person health but I didnt think that because some people dont handle their stress well it causes heart disease and that men are at higher rise. I've been a little stressed myself lately with school and work so when I read this chapter I could totally relate to some of the stuff they were saying. Like I sometimes find myself not telling anyone about my problems but instead making a journal and rambling on about whatever has happen to me that day and I feel like a height was lifted off of me. Some of the other tips they gave were good to but they were every basic and I would think most people would either talk to people or do a journal to help with their stress levels. This wasn't one of my better chpaters for me because of the fact of my own stress level at this point so I did read it but I didnt really read like and then go over it like I should of. Well the new chapter that we are reading now seems pretty cool and I can't wait for our class discussion on the topic its going to be cool to see what people have to say about other peoples personalitys.

Chapter 9
So after reading chapter 9 I found a lot of what this chapter had to said very interesting. I never realized how much intelligence and language had in common. For our discussion of this topic we had to take a IQ test and I scored 124 on it which meant I'm over average with intelligence. To me I'm not that smart I've always had to over work to pass my classes. To me the study's that the different psychology's have done to study the different areas of intelligence are more like studying common sense then really intelligence, but then again intelligence has to do with common sense. Which I never though any of those things had to really do with intelligence until I read this chapter. I'm finding the more and more I read this psychology book the more I get into this subject and relate it to my life and others and it has even given me a new outlook on something's which is awesome. Another thing I though was cool in this area was language. I have a family member who was born deaf and he has gone to special schools he's whole life and he did learn how to talk and read lips. After reading the area about language and how some people never learn how to talk is just crazy to me but it was cool to read about those cases and get to understand how and why this could happen to a person and how we only have so long to learn how to use language before that time frame is lost for good. I'm really starting to enjoy this class and get into the whole psychology way of thinking (for the most part) and now the class is almost over with :(.

okay so after rereading chpater 8 like 3 or 4 times I get this chapter a lot better and a lot of the information in this chapter is very helpful when it comes to memory and how to study for test and exams. Well at least for me this chapter was pretty useful. A lot of my study habits arent very good and i've knewn this for a while. When it comes to subject I love like history or even english I do very well on the test and exams no problem. Then there are other subject like psychology that for whatever reason I just cant get into it at ALL! After reading capter 8 I do find that if i reread the chpaters in this subject and keep studying it even though I think i mastered the subjext it does make a world of a difference for me when it comes to the grades on my unit test and even the papers I have to write. When it comes to memory its so true that it dont keep information in storage if I dont find it useful or even interesting. Which I know isnt a good thing because there are going to be subjects I have to take in college that I just wont like for one reason or another. So after reading this chapter a couple of times over and over again there are a lot of good points and im glad that the information I learned is helpful and I will use it in the future. :)

Chapter 8 memory & forgetting
So after reading chapter 8 my study skills suck. LOL. Well I do use some of the studing techniques like trying to study right before a test to help me remember what i've been studing over the last week. For some reason that kinda helps me out with my test but not really that great. I saw there was like six different techniques to use when studing like trying to relate the terms to something you use in everyday life. My best friend does that technique all the time and it seems to work great for her I've tryed this before and for whatever reason I then some how really mess everything up because I get confused with the things I relate the terms too. I believe I forget a lot of things because I dont transfer things in studing over to long term memory. My problem is if i dont like the stubject I read I just read it and it goes in one ear and out the other. So I find that I dont really keep it in my short term memory either. A lot of the stuff this chapter talked about opened my eyes on how I can studied better and some of the techniques I going to try and see if they work better for me then the ones I've been using which kinda help me but not really. Memory on the other hand Im going to need a lot of help on working on this. Im the worst when it comes to remembering stuff and im pretty for get full.

Final quiz and up coming chapter
So today I went and took my mid term which is based on all 7 chapters. I studied all the stuff for like week on and off and yet still didn't do that great on the mid term quiz :(. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter in our books which in based on short term and long term memory. I'm also looking forward to the next week off from school. I need a break from all my classes. Spring break here I come :).
So after reading the area in this book about study habits and different things I can do to help with remembering things I have learn I'm so going to putting a couple of them to work when it comes to my final which is coming up. I've used a couple of them when the midterm was over for this class and I got way better grades on the next two assignments. So when it comes to study habits and memory there are two things I have learn which I'm now trying to use as much as I can for school and work. Let's hope with studying ahead and rereading chapters or areas within a chapter will help me with my future test and final.

So the latest chapter in class was talking about habits and learning. Ive realized a lot of the things I've done over the years is because of habits I've learned or picked up. I never ever realzied that some of the stuff I did was even a habit I learned some where along the way. Now the true test or whatever you want to call it is how can I change those habits and learn better and new ones? A lot of people in my class on the discussion broad have all kinds of Habits and things they would like to change or fix. So far with this class i've learned a lot of things about people and myself that I never knew or even realized. Some if it is small stuff but never the less its still things that I just over looked for one reason or another. To me most habits people have developed have happened over time not just over night. So breaking some of the habits maybe a little hard for people. Like for me I have a couple of habits that I'm going to work on and I also saw some of my class talk about these habits as well example biting my nails. As silly as this many sounds a lot of people have this habit habit for one reason or another. When I bite my nails nine times out of ten it's because I'm nerves or stressed out about something so I end up biting my nails and I don't even realize I'm doing it. Then let's take for example my father and his sister they but have the same habit of picking at their nail beds when they are nerves or mad about something. After reading this area I've watch random people to see what habits people have when they are mad, sad, or nerves. After doing this for a couple of days at work and even with my family a lot of people have weird habits. Well this weekend im taking my mid term and i'm SO not ready to take that test. I know i'm going to have to study my butt off so I can get a passing grade. With my math final being thursday i'm just a bite nervse with both of them. fingers are crossed that I get a passing grade on them both.

Chapter 6
Okay so the last chapter we had to read in psychology was okay. For whatever reason couldnt really get into reading it though. I know this isnt good, but the first chapter was about women getting pregnant and how the womens makes everything inorder to carry the baby was pretty cool to read about. I wish they would of gone more into detail on the whole different stages of the human life. It was cool though to read about the studys they did and and how monkeys did or not react to the fake mothers. When it comes to child reacting to different people I can kinda see how it doesnt matter who picks them up when they are very little to feed or rock them to sleep. Once children get a little older and begin to relaize faces I think its harded for children to just go to any adult that wants to pick them up or feed them. So that study with the monkeys did make me think about how children act when their new borns up until there about 1 year of age. I'm not a mother and I cant relate much to the whole given birth topic in this area. One thing that I found to be really internesting was the fact that the human brian still continues to develop into our 20's which I never knew. I'm in my late 20's and I make me think about myself and how much my mind how changed since I was in my teens and how I better understand what I read and learn. When it comes to parenting they had a whole area on this topic in our text book which talked about two different styles of parenting and how one was better then the other. When I grow up my parents weren't either one of those styles that the book listed which were authoritarian & authoritative. I would have to say my mom did most of the parenting or I should say rule making in my house when it came to rising me. My mother's style of parenting was in the middle of those two because she did try to example and reason with me to find a happy middle ground. If for whatever reason this did not work out and I was still not listening or doing something I shouldn't there would be a punishment that followed. After reading this area one of my friends had a child 2 yrs ago and she let's her son rule her life and he is a beast on wheels. So I say her style of parenting was more along the lines of permissive. Which I was shocked she was that way with her child because when she grow up her parents were very demanding of her and her 7 siblings. Now we have to read chapter 7 and tested for the mid term test. I hope this next chapter is better. Like ive said before I just cant get into this class for some reason. I dont why I find this class so hard and I just cant get into most of the chapters. Hopefully Now that this will be my only class as of Feb 27th maybe ill be able to get more into this class. :/

Chapter 5 psychology
So i just got done with chapter 5 in psychology and for once I can say i got into the chapter and even the discussion board which so far I've had a hard time getting into. this chapter was great and i learned a lot of things from sleep disorders to even psychology drugs. Our discussion board had a really good topic about dreams and cannabis being used to medical use or not. Im a big believer in the use of medical cannabis because of the benefits it has showed that are good for people and even children. A couple of people in our class seem to disagree with me on this subject which I can totally understand and everyone has the right to agree or not but it seemed like some people were getting a little to personally on the whole topic laugh out loud, but it was cool to see what people write about from there dreams to their feeling on the cannabis topic. One thing I still don't understand about dreams is that when you wake up from having one for what ever reason and then after say like 5 to 10 mins later you fall asleep again how do some people pick right back up in the same dream theywere having and in the same place? To me this is totally crazy. After reading some of the post on the board I saw I wasn't the only person who this has happened to . Which I found was cool and so the person and myself got into a chat about this and why we though this was happening were we would get up and then after some period of time go back to bed and pick up with the same dream and neither one of us really has a explain on why or even how. The guy did bring up a good point though which I never though about and he said maybe its because it was the last thing we were thinking about so thats why we picked back up with the same dream. May he is right but then again maybe there is a even better reason for this which is still not answered at this point in time. Other then that psychology is different then I though it was going to be and even kinda weird or hard at times. Like for whatever reason i just cant pick up the reason behind why psychology is the way it is. I guess this wont be one of my stronger subjects in school. Which sucks because i want to learn as much as I can from this class but i just cant relate to it at all :/
Thursday, February 13, 2014
So after reading chapter 4 it had me like WOW i never knew that. well for the most part I knew basic stuff about hearing, the eyes, taste and touch but I never realize how different people or even animals for that matter use all our are senses. I really liked reading that chapter. I found it so cool on how your hearing or even your eyes took the stuff we see and makes sense of it in our brains. I know this is going to sound funny but I never looked at any of the 5 sense as anything more then something we just did. The more and more i hear in the psychology book it how me thinking a little bit different and looking at things differently as well. I had a good think making the Children's book on the Auditory system until i had this mass problem trying to email the project because the file size was to large and the Broward email wouldn't take it :/... so that was just a little ANNOYING.
So when it comes to our 5 different senses I really liked learning about hearing and our eyes. Reason for this is because I have bad vision and my younger cousin is hearing impaired since he was born. So I really wanted to understand as much as I could because of these two things which impact my life everyday. When it comes to me cousin and being deaf I totally took a different look on the whole thing reason for that was because with my project I had to ding into it a lot to make a children's book to example to them how the whole hearing process works. So after reading and then finishing my project for class I totally understand how hard it is for my cousin with everyday life even though he has hearing aids which kind of help with his hearing it doesn't really help 100%. My aunt also sent him to a special school from children who are hearing impaired and now I know why he doesn't like to talk much to people he doesn't know and why he is always looking at people's lips when they speak. I never asked him why he did that or how it was to be deaf because of the fact he has been like this he's whole life and I never though to ask him questions about it until this chapter and project.

eithics in psychology
okay so after i watched all three of the videos for the ethics in psychology essay i was kinda shocked on how they did studys at one time. WOW is all i can really say. well let me take that back two of the studys i did enjoy watching and finding out what the resultes on them. so two that i enjoyed watching were the blue eyes and brown eyes and the milgram experiment. to me both of these were GREAT studys and had some very good and true results. yes i know the blue eyes and brown eyes was kinda of mean but it showed to children that you shouldn't judge someone based on color. which i think was awesome for them to learn and they really got to see how people are treated different soloely on color or being different for whatever reason. i believe all of those children in that classroom really learn a GREAT lesson in life. the result on this study were great and so true. children in the class stopped talking to each other based on the silly reasons and even started to fight even though they were best friends. yes, i know some people would say this study did more harm then good but i dont agree with that at all. i believe those children learn a GREAT life lesson and hopefully take that with them for the rest of their life. the other study i really enjoy was the milgram study. i differenlty learmed something about myself as well while just watching this study. i hate to say this but i wouldnt of asked those people on the ground if they needed help or if they were okay either. i know this is TOTALLY wrong of me but i agree with the study that we do judge people based on how they are dressed and or carry themselves. i do now look at this whole helping or asking someone if they need help in a total different way now. i but myself in their shoes and if someone had taken my wallet i would hope if that happened to me that the person behind me would say something to me or the person that is stealing from me. this was a great study to make you as a person to look at yourself and others when it comes to real life and how you would react in different situations.
Okay so after me caring on about how I felt on the videos when it comes to code of ethics there are 5 general principles and then there are ethical standards which are totally different from each other but both of them have to do with psychology and how things are studied within psychology. When it comes to general principles these rules aren't enforceable but more like goals to guide psychologist towards the right outcome. When it comes to ethical standards are enforceable reason which have to be followed. How this can relate to everyday life is because in society we have ethics in place which we must follow then there other things in everyday life which are in place for more like guide lines for us. Example human rights this has to do with ethics and it has to do with who has these rights and what these rights rights. Another example how we use ethics in everyday life when be some jobs have ethics which they most avoid conflicts of interest and sensitive to their jobs and what is required of them. ( doctors and lawyers)

After reading the first chapter of psychology I was pretty blow away by it. I never know all they different types of psychologist and what they really do or even study. To me psychology was always about the weird stuff and not all the pretty cool stuff they some psychologist really do. Like I never realized that there are so many different areas of study within psychology. In the first chapter they talk about the schools of psychology and there are 6 different classes. Which before this chapter I would of said there were like two schools not 6 of them. Then they also talk about mostly men being in the field of psychology until about 1861 which that women Mary Calkins made some good finding on the study of memory and self-concept. Yes, I know most men were doctors in the early times in the USA history , but now looking at psychology in today's world I would have to say more women are in the field. Most of the time when I watch movies or even hear a person or two talking about seeing a psychologist they always show women or say they saw a women so I was kind surprised that more women in history weren't psychologist. So far this first chapter has differently changed my mind set on this class isn't going to be easy because I'm going to have to think outside the box a little bit more. Differently going to enjoy this class and see a lot things in different ways.
